From August 8th to 10th, the UVG Bootcamp 2018 was held at the facilities of the Universidad del Valle of Guatemala Campus Altiplano, in Sololá, Guatemala. It was an excellent learning experience in which nine agrotechnological ventures acquired useful strategic tools to refine their value propositions and business models. The entrepreneurs were from Sololá, Quetzaltenango and Chiquimula (Guatemala), but there were also participants from El Salvador and Nicaragua.
For three days, the entrepreneurs received different conferences and workshops given by the Pomona AgTech team, as well as invited experts from Heifer International and Gasolineras Don Arturo. On Friday 10th took place the elevator pitches final competition, in which the nine participating entrepreneurs presented their business idea in front of a panel of judges with plenty of experience in the agro-industrial sector. The big winner was Edmundo Villela, founder of Agroindustrias Nuevo Amanecer, an integrated poultry production farm located in Chiquimula. Edmundo was granted a seed capital of 1000 USD.
Although this was the first Bootcamp carried out by UVG Altiplano in collaboration with Pomona AgTech, Heifer International and Gasolineras Don Arturo, it is expected to do more Bootcamps in the years to come, in order to promote entrepreneurship in the western region of Guatemala.
