With the support of the SG Foundation,
Pomona organized the AgTech Bootcamp
in partnership with the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala.

In accordance with Pomona’s methodology, the Bootcamps are short, intensive programs in which we work with entrepreneurs in an early stage, or even idea stage.


In these programs, we evaluate the business models of the entrepreneurs, and we work together to determine the potential market size and scale capacity for their idea. We utilize tools such as Design Thinking in order to help the participating entrepreneurs understand their value proposal, market objective, and the best ways to reach clients. The winners of Bootcamps obtain entry to Pomona’s Incubator program, where they receive focused training and additional support to be able to finish developing their products and launch them in the marketplace.


On October 28 and 29, 11 entrepreneurs representing 6 different projects attended the Bootcamp organized by Pomona AgTech and the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala in the Impact HUB in Antigua, Guatemala. The program participants represented projects and innovative ideas that would improve skills and methods for agricultural producers throughout the region.

Project 1:
MAB Labs
Entrepreneur: José Bagur
José is working on the development of compact meteorological stations to be installed in the Central American region in order to create a network of stations that provide information. In the future, he plans to sell the data obtained in the stations to farms and agricultural producers via an easy-to-understand format providing information that would allow them to make productive decisions supported by properly analyzed data.

Project 2:
Integrated agricultural technology solutions
Entrepreneur: Andrea Mazariegos
Andrea is working together with an international team on a project that aims to offer microbiological solutions to agricultural producers while also providing access to drone and satellite services in order to design a more efficient production plan.

Project 3:
Efficient solar panels
for use in rural areas

Entrepreneur: José Julio Aldana

José is working on the creation of malleable solar panels that do not require a large surface in order to be installed, in this way ensuring that small-hold farmers and those with small residences can achieve access to their own panels.

Project 4:
Affordable electric light
bulb that simulates sunlight

Entrepreneur: Alejandro Pérez

Currently, only large-scale producers have access to greenhouse technology and lamps that simulate sunlight to be able to increase their production. Alejandro is working on a light bulb with an amplifier that allows small-scale agricultural producers that do not have access to hothouses to be able to use this form of technology.

Project 5:
agricultural tool

Entrepreneur: Layla Rojas

Many producers in the region depend on a small plot of land for their survival, and furthermore do not have access to technology that would allow them to be more efficient even though they most likely have to cover considerable distances to be able to reach their plots. Given that they still use basic tools, transporting various tools becomes a complicated task, as they are not able to carry many tools at one time. Layla is working on creating a tool that fulfills the functional needs of small-scale producers and is also lightweight enough to carry.

Project 6:
Water Storage
System for Agriculture

Entrepreneur: Rony Baten (Líder del equipo)

In the highlands of Guatemala, natural springs are scarce and it is very expensive to build wells. Rony is leading a team of three entrepreneurs from the region who are working together to resolve the problem. THe team plans to offer a package of different solutions, such as devices to collect rainwater, irrigation systems, and hydrogel systems. The system is designed to make more efficient use of water in agricultural production and to be able to extend the time in which it is possible to produce agricultural goods.
